Jim Hawkins lives with his mother in a small in near the sea. One day, an old man comes to stay in the inn. He has a map which belongs to Captain Flint. The map shows an island that there is a treasure on. However the old man dies soon because of his illness before he can get the treasure. Then Mrs. Hawkins and Jim take the old man's money and the map and run away. Jim shows the map to a rich landowner, Mr. Trelawney and to his friend Dr. Livesey.
Mr. Trelawney talks so much and tells everbody about his plans and so a seaman John Silver seems to help him to find the treasure. In fact, John Silver is a pirate and he is after the treasure. Jim learns his plan but it is too late to stop him. Soon John Silver arrives the island but the treasure is taken away by Ben Gunn, who lives there for many years and Ben tells where the treasure is only to Jim and Mr. Trelawney.
After a while, Jim marries and has a son. He calls his son Jamie. One day, Jamie sees a man walking towards their home. At that time John isn't at home, he is Dr. Livesey's funeral. Silver asks Jamie for a supper and he accepts him. When Silver sees the map, he suddenly takes the map and kidnaps Jamie Silver gets in the ship of Abraham Gray with Jamie. Silver deceives Gray, too and takes the control of the ship with his men, Black Frank and Mr. Whale. They hold Gray and his men in captive and let Jamie talk with them and give them food. Fortunately, Jamie helps them to rescue and gain the control again. After a long voyage, they arrive the island, but Silver's men attack them and Jamie, Gray and his men, Harrison and a loyal seaman have to jump into the sea to save themselves. They swim and swim and reach the island but the loyal seaman has wounded and dissappeared in the sea.
The island is as Jamie's father tells him. Without losing time, they go to the cave where the treasure has been hidden. The cave is covered with cobwebs and there is two men lying dead on the floor. Gray guesses that they are killed by Silver while fighting. Afterwards, they leave the cave and try to survive in the island. One day, Jamie sees Silver and his men with equipments while he is wandering around. He follows them and hears what they are planning about them. Silver plans to take the treasure and leave the island with the old boat near the cave leaving them on the island, so Gray will never go back. After Jamie learns their plan, he gets angry and throws an arrow to one of the pirates of Silver and runs away. When he tells all the story to Gray, Gray makes a plan.
According to the plan, Harrison will go and wait in the pirates' hiding-place where Jamie has watched them. After Jamie and Gray leave the stockade, they will attack to Silver's men taking the treasure with them. However something goes wrong and Harrison is killed. Jamie and Gray are caught and put into different rooms, but just then they hear some voices. It's Jamie's father. Silver holds Jamie and doesn't let him go. Jamie's father kills him and save everybody.
Now Captain Gray is free again. He fixes his ship and sails back to England. Jim's men bury Harrison and they never talk about the treasure again. For all Jamie cares, it may lie there forever.
