The Mountain Film Festival willfeaturea total of 44 entries, including 28 Turkish and 16 international movies. Cinematicdepictionsof extreme sports such as diving, climbing, base jumping, skiing, biking and parachuting will all be screened at the event.
The fifth edition of the Mountain Film Festival starts March 30 in Istanbul, drawing viewers who arepassionateabout adventure, discovery and adrenaline.
Organized around the theme "What's in your nature?' the event is being put together by the Mountain Culture Association and Atlas magazine, one of Turkey's oldest and best-knownperiodicals.
Since its first year, the Mountain Film Festival has invitedurbandwellersto get closer to nature and has drawnattentiontodocumentariesdealing with the outdoors. This year's selected films will be shown through April 4 in six different categories, "From the World,' "Discovering Soul,' "From our Country,' "Nature-Environment-People,' "Bicycle' and "Skiing.'
An urban adventure
As part of the festival, two-person teams will race through the Beyoğlu district on the night of April 3 in a "City Adventure', competing to earn points by reading maps, findingcluesand walking, running and climbing through the urban environment.Competitorsmustapplyto theregistrationpoint on the day of the event between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Those who prefer to share their own stories about nature, the mountains, adventure, sports, discovery, travel or culture can join the festival's amateur film competition, "Çek Getir' (Shoot and Bring). Films can be uploaded to the festival's (Turkish-language) Web site, those that receive the mostvotesfrom viewers will get an award.
