Istanbul Film Festival to Feature More Than 200 Films

Thecountdownhas begun for Turkey's largest filmevent, the 29th International Istanbul Film Festival. Under the sponsorship of Akbank yet again, the festival willtake placebetween April 3 and 18.Entranceto matinées and all Turkish films is just 3.50 liras.

Istanbul's cinemaaficionadosare due a treat as organizers of the International Istanbul Film Festival have announced the event's program, whichincludesover 200 films from 57 countries.

The 29th edition of the festival is being organized from April 3 to 18 by the IstanbulFoundationfor Culture and Arts, or İKSV.

This year at the festival

More than 200 films will be shown this year in 23 categories. The festival will present new features from 2009 and 2010, as well asunforgettableclassics frommasterfilmmakers.

The two-week event will includeworkshopsand panel discussions with the masters of film, special guests, film seminars and parties.

Eleven films willcompetein the festival's internationalcompetitionand national competition categories. At the same time, Italian director, screenwriter and actor Marco Bellocchio and Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brandauer will receive lifetime achievement awards.

The films will be presented at Atlas, Yeni Rüya, Beyoğlu, Sinepop, Pera Museum, Kadıköy and Nişantaşı CityLife movie theaters.

Tickets for the festival go on sale March 20.Cinephilesmaypurchasetickets at ticket offices at the Atlas and Yeni Rüya theaters in Beyoğlu, Kadıköy Theater, the İKSV building and any Biletixoutlet.

In keeping with festival tradition, audiences will again have theprivilegeof attending screenings ataffordableprices with reducedadmissions.

Regular tickets are 10 Turkish Liras, while reduced admission for students and senior citizens over the age of 65 are 7 liras. Tickets for all weekday daytime screenings are only 3.50 liras. Tickets for the Akbank Galas are 15 liras. For lovers of Turkish cinema, all screenings of Turkish films are just 3.50 liras.

This year's Honorary Cinema Awards at the International Istanbul Film Festival will be awarded to three distinguished artists who have worked for many years in the Turkish film industry: Kadir İnanır, Mevlüt Koçak and Feyzi Tuna.

The awards will be presented to the three artists at the April 2 opening ceremony at the Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center.

One of the festival'sfocusesis human rights. In line with this, a Film Award of the Council of Europe, or FACE, will be presented for the fourth time at the festival. Council Communications Director Can Fişek said the award would be given to a festival film that successfully examines the theme of human rights.

In addition to İKSV, the festival has been made possible with the support of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Beyoğlu Municipality, the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency, and Akbank, which is back for a third year of support.
