Activists from Bergama, İzmir, Balıkesir, Ayvalık, Edremit, Manisa, Aydın, Antalya, Istanbul and Muğla gathered in front of the ancient city in Bergama.
The group, including doctors andagriculturalists, also organized a meeting, during which an argumentoccurredbetween the activists and Nuri Taşkıranoğulları, head of the Bergama Agriculture Chamber.
Some of the members protested with music while others lay on the ground andspelled outthe word "help' with their bodies.
Diler said the ancient site was atreasurefor the world's culturalheritage.
Forty guides from the Istanbul Chamber of Guides placed a blackwreathsaying, "We shame this ugliness' in front of acablewaywhich has just opened to service the dam.
