'prefer' Followed by Gerund or Infinitive?
With the verbs which can be used both with gerund and infinitive, you should decide if the situation is a specific experience or a general thought or idea. (Hem gerund hem infinitive'le kullanılan fiillerde durumun özel mi (bir seferlik) yoksa genel mi olduğuna karar vermemiz gerekir.)
Genel bir durumsa gerund, özel bir durumsa infinitive kullanılır.
Bu örnekte genel bir tercihten bahsedildiği için gerund (-ing) kullanımı doğru.
A:Why didn't you go to the party?
Yukardaki örnekte bahsi geçen kişi büyük ihtimalle normalde evde oturmak yerine dışarı çıkmayı tercih ediyor ama bu sefer tanımadığı insanlar olacağı için evde kalmayı tercih etmiş.
