Why People Learning English Have Trouble with the Language - "UP"
It's easy to understand UPyukarıya, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UPuyanmak? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP gündeme gelmek? Why do we speak UPyüksek sesle konuşmak,, and why are the officers UP for hazır election and why is it UP to değin the secretary to write UPkaleme almak a report? We call UPtelefon etmek our friends and we use it to brighten UPaydınlatmak a room,polish UPtoparlamak the silver, we warm UPısıtmak the leftovers and clean UPtoparlamak the kitchen. We lock UPkilitlemek the house and some guys fix UPonarmak the old car. At other times the little word has a real special meaning. People stir UPayağa kaldırmak trouble,line UPsıraya girmek for tickets,work UPgeliştirmek an appetite, and think UPuydurmak excuses.
To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UPsüslenmek is special. And this UP is confusing;
A drain must be opened UPaçılmak because it is stopped UPtıkamak.
We open UPaçılmak a store in the morning but we close it UPkapatmak at night. We seem to be pretty mix UPkarmakarışık olmak about UP!
